Coleman was born at Blackpool Lancashire. Coleman was head of the class at Arnold School, Blackpool and had straight A's at her A-levels. Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman has replaced Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor after Arthur Darvill left the series, would be playing the role of Matt Smith. Moffat has chosen her due to the ease with which she complimented Smith and the fact that she had a faster speaking speed than him.
